Hiroshi Kawasaki, 2010-2011 Governor of the Japan District of Kiwanis International, says at the beginning of his address, '"Kiwanis" derives from the word "NUN-Kee-Wan-is" natives of the Detroit, USA used. As one of the three major volunteer organizations, Kiwanis now comprise of 250,000 members, around 8,000 clubs in more than 80 countries.'
As you can see, Kiwanis Clubs are groups of people who volunteer and fraternize. Each club meet regularly once a week or every other week, conduct service activities, and deepen friendship. The basic spirit is in the 6 Objectives resolved at 1924 Kiwanis International Convention.
Right now, Kiwanis Clubs worldwide are focusing on services for children, with slogans, "Serving Children of the World" and "Young Children: Priority One".
